We Say Bamboulee Debut Release

“Bush Tricks” is the debut EP/ mini album from Blue Mountains Trio, We Say Bamboulee.

It’s not hard to see why FBi made it feature album of the week, with 8 tracks of eclectic, electric little pop nuggets we’ve picked out our favourite track- Waiting in Wisconsin.

Newtown Festival This Weekend

Dead Letter Chorus @ Newtown Festival last year

Since erecting a bunch of ugly fences and banning BYO, Newtown Festival in recent years has seemed to become more effort than it’s worth. But with deliciously sunny weather forecast and a picnic-perfect soundtrack provided by GuineafowlMegastick Fanfare and Richard In Your Mind., we’re gonna make the effort this year.

If you’re not getting there at 9AM for the dog show make sure you get there by midday to catch WIM, on the essential stage.

Love Parade

Every time I try to write a nice little post about how I much I’m enjoying the single “It’s Happening Again Or” from Sydney’s Love Parade I get distracted by the baby chimpanzee and blissed out mellow chorus , so here’s the clip without the blurb….

Bands We Like: The Jim Jones Revue

THE JIM JONES REVUE – High Horse

For me, The Jim Jones Revue are the most exciting band on the ever-disappointing Big Day Out 2011 lineup – fact! So I love The Stooges, but I’ve seen them twice, they’ve played the BDO before, and obviously there will be no Ron Asheton playing guitar, so it’s all on The Jim Jones Revue.

From London, these guys are bringing back garage rock n roll in a serious way. Mick Jones from The Clash apaprently said “There is no bigger band than The Jim Jones Revue” (probably when drunk or something). Their debut album Burning Your House Down, in short, rules – this is the first single off of it, High Horse, and there ae a lot better tracks on the LP to put it in perspective.

Shows We Wanna Go To: Dark Bells & Virgo Rising

Two of the best new bands I’ve seen this year are sharing a bill this week at OAF. Since my original post about them, I’ve seen Dark Bells about four more times and they haven’t failed to impress.

Here’s a video from one of their recent shows…

New Video Clip: The John Steel Singers

THE JOHN STEEL SINGERS – Overpass

I have been, and continue to be, stupidly busy at the moment, and that is my excuse for why I havn’t posted in a while. BUT I could not resist sharing the new John Steel Singers clip for current single Overpass.

Ok yes, so they are old mates of Deadbeat Club, but that doesn’t stop the fact this filmclip seriously rules. And yes, that’s Peter Fenton from Love Is A Four Letter Word.

Their debut album Tangalooma is out Nov 5

Directed by Josh Groom.

Bands We Like: Tijuana Panthers

There’s something in the water down in Long Beach, CA, otherwise known as America’s eighth most walkable city (this is true, the internet told me). Home town of chillest dude in the universe, Snoop Dogg, the LBC is currently home to slacker-punk stand-up drummer heroes The Soft Pack, and their current label mates, Tijuana Panthers.

I first heard these guys on FBi driving around one night. Through my shitty broken car speakers I could still work out that the song was totally blazing, and had to sit in my car parked out the front of my house for another four songs until they back announced. I went inside and bought everything they’ve put out, which amounts to a couple of 7″ singles available from the band’s Myspace. These guys have their shit sorted. Combining elements of beat, garage, surf, hardcore, plus whatever else gets a run at those Southern California house parties we’re all jealous of, they’re pretty much the jukebox to the sweetest summer house party in your friend’s beachside mansion (inflatable pool and actual ocean included), or possibly a chihuaha wearing sunglasses. I haven’t decided yet.

But don’t take my word for it, find out for yourself. Their entire album Max Baker is available to stream online at the band’s Bandcamp page. Or right here on Deatbeat Club, even. Also check out the clip for Creature, featuring some creepy eyes and pig masks. If these dudes ever scrape together the cash to come to Australia, make it your mission to see them, as the live footage available on youtube rules.
